500 ml unsweetened soya milk 

¼ cup Chia seeds 

4 dates 

2 heaped teaspoons of cinnamon 

1 star anise 

3 – 4 cardamom seeds pods (optional) 

¼ cup cocoa powder 

30 ml boiling water 

 

Method 

Chop the dates (pitted) using a scissor into a small bowl. 

Add the boiling water.  

Leave it to t stand for a while. Use a fork to mash or stick a blender to puree the dates.  

Mix the cinnamon, cocoa and spices in a small bowl.  

Heat 100 ml of the milk. 

Add this to the cinnamon, spices and cocoa to dissolve the latter. 

Use a large glass jar with a lid and mix the spice and cocoa blend with the milk (cold or warm). 

Shake to blend well or use a stick blender to blitz well.  

Chill in the fridge for about 1 hour. 

  

Tip: 

The chia seeds will swell and thicken the mixture. 

The mixture is deliciously filling and an excellent source of soluble fibre, minerals and essential fatty acids. 

Enjoy it cold as a dessert or chocolate milkshake when you need to cocoa boost.
